Closing the Wearable Gap—Part VIII: A Validation Study for a Smart Knee Brace to Capture Knee Joint Kinematics

چکیده

Background: Wearable technology is used by clinicians and researchers play a critical role in biomechanical assessments rehabilitation. Objective: The purpose of this research to validate soft robotic stretch (SRS) sensor embedded compression knee brace (smart brace) against motion capture system focusing on joint kinematics. Methods: Sixteen participants donned the smart completed three separate tasks: non-weight bearing flexion/extension, bodyweight air squats, gait trials. Adjusted R2 for goodness fit (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), absolute (MAE) between SRS kinematic data all tasks were assessed. Results: For flexion/extension: = 0.799, RMSE 5.470, MAE 4.560; squats: 0.957, 8.127, 6.870; trials: 0.565, 9.190, 7.530 observed. Conclusions: demonstrated higher accuracy during weight-bearing squats followed flexion/extension lower gait, which can be attributed position orientation, rather than range achieved each task.

Knee Kinematics Estimation Using Multi-Body Optimisation Embedding a Knee Joint Stiffness Matrix: A Feasibility Study

The use of multi-body optimisation (MBO) to estimate joint kinematics from stereophotogrammetric data while compensating for soft tissue artefact is still open to debate. Presently used joint models embedded in MBO, such as mechanical linkages, constitute a considerable simplification of joint function, preventing a detailed understanding of it. The present study proposes a knee joint model whe...

Immediate effects of a knee brace with a constraint to knee extension on knee kinematics and ground reaction forces in a stop-jump task.

BACKGROUND A small knee flexion angle in landing tasks was identified as a possible risk factor for noncontact anterior cruciate ligament injuries that are common in sports. HYPOTHESIS A specially designed knee brace with a constraint to knee extension would significantly increase the knee flexion angle at the landing of athletic tasks preceded with horizontal movement components, such as sto...

Effects of a Custom-made Hinged Knee Brace with Knee Flexion Support for Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis:a Preliminary Study

A knee brace for medial knee osteoarthritis (OA) is required to restrict knee adduction moment (KAM), but must not restrict knee flexion during swing phase. There is no report of a knee brace with both functions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the custom-made hinged knee brace for patients with knee OA compared to the hinged knee brace generally used, and to assess th...

Comparison of Two Methods for Functional Knee Axis Determination: Mri Validation and Effect on Knee Joint Kinematics during Isokinetic Dynamometry

This paper compares two methods proposed in literature [1,2] to calculate the functional knee axis of rotation (fAoR). Calculations are based on 3D motion data based on data during dynamometer processed using Kalman Smoothing [3]. fAoRs are validated with equivalent axes (EA) based on static MR-imaging data. Both methods are combined with a knee motion model (KMY) [4], widely used in the study ...
